Alder (Alnus Glutinosa) is a rather plain , light-coloured wood, tending into red. It is very stiff in comparison to its weight and is also very resistant against twisting and warping. Because of these qualities it is a very good alternative wood for necks, especially for maple-instruments, whose colour it closely matches.
